Moodle 3.5.2: GDPR with a side of LTI

GDPR continues to be a development priority. Improved tools for Privacy Officers to manage requests offer better traceability. Also related to GDPR, it is now possible to set “Data request expiry time”.

In non-GDPR development, users can launch Moodle-hosted LTI activities from a public URL. Before, URLs needed to be private or needed a key to share LTI content. In another line of work, alternate names is now an available criteria for global search.

Dozens of fixes and improvements complete the release. They should have a positive impact on memory, permissions, file management and storage, notifications, session handling and lots of areas more. Read the release notes for Moodle 3.5.2 here.

The Moodle 3.5 release is a Long Term Support type. It will receive security support until May 2021.

Moodle 3.5.2 for iOS and Android

The Moodle apps continue to improve and polish, in the hopes to curb the less than ideal ratings in both the Play and the App Stores. The timing should also work in their favor, as schools around the world return from summer and winter breaks.

The main new features and enhancements include:

No update is available about Moodle Desktop 3.5.2 app for PC, Mac and Linux computers. It is usually released a few days after the mobile apps.

Moodle 3.4.5

The second-to-last core update embeds the GDPR plugins into core. This means both Policies and Data Privacy will no longer be supported as plugins and will be shipped with the core.

The “Data request expiry time” feature is also available here, as well as many of the improvements for 3.5.2.

Moodle 3.3.8 and Moodle 3.1.14 (LTS)

Both scheduled for security fixes only, 3.3.8 also brings the GDPR plugins embedded and the “Data request expiry time” feature.
