The city of Kassel in the German heartland will be home to the next MoodleMoot Germany, scheduled to take place Monday, March 12th, through Thursday, March 15th, 2018.

Until Wednesday, November 1st, interested speakers can submit their presentations for the “Pre-Conference” taking place the first two days. The organization committee is interested in ideas that matter, where learning is placed as a way to understand the “profound and lasting transformations of social and economic conditions by the ‘digital world’ in the way we live and work, comparable to an industrial revolution.”

Germany is of great importance to Moodle, both in the European and global contexts. The last market share reports, from fall 2016, give Moodle more than half the share of the Higher Ed LMS market. With Ilias and Stud.IP in second and third place, open source solutions serve about 4 out of every 5 universities in Germany. Another reason that makes the Kassel Moot one not to be missed is it will be the last one before EU’s rules on data protection (the GDPR) come into effect the following May.

Top Moodler and Moodle Pty Ltd Director Martin Dougiamas and Research Analyst Elizabeth Dalton have already confirmed keynote engagements for Kassel.

Other topics that might be covered during the event in intensive workshops are:

  • Learning analytics
  • Theme “adjustment” for developers
  • Mahara integrations

The German enthusiasm is palpable in the closing words of the official email: “It will be exciting.”

Following the presentation deadline, registration to attend MoodleMoot Germany 2018 will be open until Wednesday, November 15th. Accepted speakers will be notified after the 20th. Attendance fees are not available as of today.
