At the ripe age of 15, Moodle has made its official introduction into the EDUCAUSE society. An update by Moodle Partner eThink Education reveals what happened, starting with Martin Dougiamas, Moodle Founder and CEO, in his first talk at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference, held this year in Philadelphia.

Invited by eThink, Dougiamas shared excerpts of his well-known “Moodle in the next 10 years” keynote. It revealed to an audience featuring eThink’s customers the many projects in the works inside and around the Moodle LMS. These initiatives, some of which have been in development for years, will benefit from the recent investment by socially responsible VC Education for the Many, as well as the expansion of eThink in North America, the Caribbean, and Africa. As an official Moodle Partner, 10% of eThink’s revenue funds Moodle’s ongoing development.

Clients and prospects had an exclusive glimpse of some of these new projects. Rumors about a “Moodle social” network, where users can connect to each other through their own institution’s Moodle and collaborate, access open content (including OER,) and carry on their user profiles, only heightened after the evening “meet and greet.”

Dougiamas also met with the EDUCAUSE assembly during the day. By its own account, it was an exciting opportunity for managers of Moodle sites in the US to finally meet Dougiamas in the flesh.

EDUCAUSE is a North American-based association focused on higher education technology. Besides its annual event, it offers a year-round calendar of events, research and analysis publications, and other member-based initiatives. The EDUCAUSE Annual Conference 2017 featured talks by Michio Kaku and Temple Grandin.
