Thanks to all 30 of the Moodlers who took the time to fill out our poll yesterday about Mail/Messaging systems used in their Moodles. Here’s a quick synopsis of the data we collected:
- The majority of users rely on Moodle’s standard messaging system
- 2nd most popular was Quickmail: http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13&rid=92
- There are more viable options than the two listed above.
Here’s what the distribution looked like:
A few comments worth sharing,
[standard messaging can] waste students’ time since they get into the Standard Message System and text junk messages to each other
Standard messaging system messages could not be read by teacher – students were using it to send nasty messages. Had to take it down.

In regards to the eMail block (http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13&rid=701)
Probably it is not the best solution, but is helpful because its similarity to common online mail systems.
