This is a great presentation from the Colombia Moodle Moot (this past August 18th and 19th) which Michelle Moore gave (Michelle is a long time Moodler and Chief Evangelist at Remote-Learner).

The slideshow does a great job of showing the impact that each can have on the design of a course and answers the “why” for using it.

Taking a Peek at “Moodle 1.9 – Testing and Assessment”

From the title it might seem that the Moodle 1.9 – Testing and Assessment book by Jason Myrick is focused solely on the quiz features in Moodle. That assumption however misses Jason’s coverage of Moodle’s full tool belt of assessment-ready modules.

While this new title by Packt covers the Quiz feature extensively (including a walk through of each quiz question type which is invaluable to Moodlers of all skill level) Mr. Myrick’s chapters also cover some of the lesser featured/known assessment tools like

The lesson
Workshop
Nanogong

The structure and layout of the book is straightforward and easy to follow. The later chapters exploring specific techniques and ideas for oral, reading and writing-based assessments.

The Moodlefairy (Mary Cooch ) gives us a nice sneak peak (and tutorial) for the Workshop 2.0 available soon (5/3) in Moodle 2.0 Beta. The example shows the set up of a peer evaluation of poems for Valentine’s day. Enjoy!

Moodle.org QA Testing site Open!

Moodle HQ has opened their Moodle2.0 testing site to the public if you’re interested in getting a peak at Moodle 2.0. The site is available at http://qa.moodle.net/.

From the site:

Welcome! This site is for helping with our Moodle 2.0 QA testing.

Here are some accounts for you to use:

Teacher – username teacher, password FunMood1ing!

Student – username student, password FunMood1ing!

The database and files are erased and restored to a clean state every hour on the hour, so don’t worry if you make a mess.

Also note that you might not be the only person using one of the demo accounts at the same time, so you may see unexpected things happen occasionally.

Note that this will give you access to the latest build of Moodle, however some functionality will not be working and no courses have been created.
