2.2 QA Testers needed at Moodle.org

Moodle.org Community Manager, Helen Foster announced early this week that QA testing for Moodle 2.2 has started (http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=190362),

As Martin posted in the general developer forum, we’re hoping to release Moodle 2.2 in just over two weeks time on 1st December 2011. To ensure a top quality release, we’re running another QA testing cycle, starting today: Moodle 2.2 QA. The list of over 200 QA tests has been expanded to include tests covering new features and improvements in Moodle 2.2.

Our QA testing site will be updated daily at 11:00 UTC with the latest bug fixes and Moodle HQ developers are on standby to fix any bugs causing QA tests to fail as quickly as possible, so QA testers can re-run any previously failed tests within a day or two. Alternatively you can download 2.2 beta (package built daily) from http://download.moodle.org/.

We’re aiming for a 100% pass rate of QA tests so all testing help is much appreciated! Please see QA testing for details of how you can be involved.

Quality Assurance is an important community driven event for Moodle as it often helps to identify, triage and fix many of the small (and big) issues prior to a release. If you’ve got some spare time and have a stake in the upcoming 2.2 release then QA Testing is where it’s at. The QA Testing Moodle site is available at http://qa.moodle.net/.

Even if you’re not interested in testing you can still take 2.2 for a test drive at the url posted.

Big news is coming from Moodle.org where it’s pending release of Moodle 2.1 is being tested by the community (right now and ongoing). 2.1 beta is currently available from both the Windows and Mac version download pages for your convenience (if you’re feeling adventurous) or you can join the testing crew at Moodle.org and check out all the new features and perform the tests at QA.moodle.net.

Moodle 2.1, which includes new features like activity cloning, the new test engine, some infrastructure for the Mobile App and perhaps most importantly 1.9 restore to 2.1 for course backups, is due out this July 1st. QA Cycle 2 and how you can lend a helping hand

It takes a strong community to create a great open source product and it will take the whole community to check/re-check the nearly 200 tickets in this second round of QA. You can have a big impact in getting Moodle 2.0 ready for a stable, ready-for-the-masses-release.

Testing is easy, you’ll just need a few things:

An account at http://moodle.org and http://tracker.moodle.org
Access to the Moodle Demo site: http://qa.moodle.net/
Listing as a tester (connect with Helen Foster to receive this designation), more information at her call for testers.

Once you’ve lined those up, you can jump on the QA site, open the tracker ticket for the QA testing round 2 and have at it. Opening any of the tickets that are “open” will allow you to see more details and to comment once you’ve started testing. Even tackling 1 or 2 tickets could be a huge help in the long run.

Moodle.org QA Testing site Open!

Moodle HQ has opened their Moodle2.0 testing site to the public if you’re interested in getting a peak at Moodle 2.0. The site is available at http://qa.moodle.net/.

From the site:

Welcome! This site is for helping with our Moodle 2.0 QA testing.

Here are some accounts for you to use:

Teacher – username teacher, password FunMood1ing!

Student – username student, password FunMood1ing!

The database and files are erased and restored to a clean state every hour on the hour, so don’t worry if you make a mess.

Also note that you might not be the only person using one of the demo accounts at the same time, so you may see unexpected things happen occasionally.

Note that this will give you access to the latest build of Moodle, however some functionality will not be working and no courses have been created.
