Here’s a great presentation by Mark McCall at Remote-Learner which covers the major changes between Moodle 1.9 and 2.0 and provides 15 tasks for Server Administrators and 6 tasks for teachers as they get started on a Moodle 2.0 site. Practical and easy to navigate. Tips include setting default course features, languages, time zone, course level filters and checking the gradebook.

Here’s a pretty great presentation by Paul McKenzie (@paulbmckenzie) which highlights the pros and cons/problem and solution of using Moodle in the classroom. The pros, Paul says, are that Moodle has a great community, is open source, free to adopt (no license). The cons include it’s course development learning curve and “walled garden” approach to building on the web.

The problem, as he sees it is Moodle’s standard feature set which is unappealing to students as is. His solution includes a few key ways which you can use to “break” down some of the digital walls and integrate a more web2.0 look and feel into the classroom through embedding, RSS, iFrames, and by using Moodle’s standard features like the the Glossary, Wiki, Database and Forums which engage students more directly.

This intro presentation found on Prezi was created by “Ian (Teacher in China)”. It’s a great look at a few handy tips for new teachers working with Moodle.

Tip 1: Focus on the Middle (remove the blocks/clutter around the edges)
Tip 2: Turn editing on!
Tip 3: Add Assignments

These entry level tips are highlighted with screenshots and highlighted buttons, a great start to a new presentation (you can make a copy) or a great way to gently remind the new Moodlers at your staff development session what they might be forgetting.

Goomoodleikiog is a presentation (originally a Youtube) that shows the power of mashing-up Moodle, Google Apps, Wikis and Blogs in the classroom. The creators, Leigh Murrell and Heidi Beezley, have created a companion site and just presented at ISTE in Denver on their “invention”. The Prezi is very well done (but the video is a classic (in my book).
