If it’s one thing Moodle has done well is creating a community driven repository of courses that you can easily download and put to use on your own site.  There are 1000s of courses across the web from various sources (and more spring up every day).  While they are not necessarily all centrally located the MOOCH has set a nice foundation for the slow accumulation and centralization of shared resources and courses.  As more users switch to 2.x more and more courses will surely be published.  If you’re looking for free courses to checkout/download/adapt, you might find something worthwhile in the links below.

Adding a file upload, discussion forum or assessment could provide the basis for a course or online unit in your own classroom.

The site hosts nearly 70 courses in various languages (the majority of courses are in English) which span topics such as

  • open source software (like Gimp and Audacity),
  • Languages,
  • Webdesign,
  • Business, and
  • Programming

Each course includes a few great web resources and a discussion forum for authenticated users (though you need not register to take advantage of the collection of great resources).  Free (but ad-supported), open and not a bad place to start for ideas: http://www.open-of-course.org/.

The courses available from his site cover mostly English related topics (Dune, the Hobbit, English Comp), however he also shares a very handy course template for teachers to create course resources (from a starting point).

The courses are a great starting point for any teacher looking to reuse/remix Moodle content on their own site.  Note that all of the courses are released with a non-commercial, share alike Creative Commons license.
