Moodle’s Code base growth over time (visualized in video)

If your interested in the growth of Moodle over time, specifically in regards to the size and complexity of the developed code base then this new set of videos created by David Mudrak using “Gource” (a data visualization tool). The three videos catalog the growth and development of Moodle’s code base all the way back from 2002 (through present).

It’s an interesting reflection on how much work Martin Dougiamas put into the project as the sole developer early on. Contrasted with the last few seconds of the 3rd video you’ll see the incredible evolution that Moodle has experiences from 1 coder with a small code base to 100s of collaborators working on a huge code base capable of everything we know and love about Moodle.

Check it out and give thanks to the developers who are truly the pillars of the Moodle community.

Moodle 1.9.9 release coming soon?

If you check the Moodle.org download page and then the “Progress towards 1.9.9″ you’ll see that 100% of the bug fixes and issues have been either resolved or closed in 1.9.8.

No word on the release (I think I’d rather the focus remain on 2.0) but expect 1.9.9 in the near future.

Moodle 2.0 Beta Release date pushed to 5/3/2010

Looks like Moodle 2.0′s release has been pushed out of April to May 3rd.

There are 70 commits into the main development branch from the last week. Martin Dougiamas has set-up Moodle 2.0-beta release day in HQ planning calendar to May 3rd 2010 and the team is focusing on bringing Moodle 2.0 beta down onto the runway. Hopefully the wind conditions are good for clear landing.

Despite the delay, the list of improvements is vast (both on look and feel and functionality); it’ll be well worth the wait. See some additional features and improvements on the Moodle.org Roadmap: http://docs.moodle.org/en/Roadmap.

#MoodleMoot 2010 in Berlin is March 23-26th

The MoodleMoot Berlin is fast approaching. Pre-conference events begin March 23 and the official conference commences on Thursday March 25th. This year’s event will be held at Humboldt University of Berlin, Adlershof Campus (http://www.adlershof.hu-berlin.de/standardseite-en).

Registration for the conference is 80 Euro. There are several additional pre-conference workshops available to purchase as well, including a Developers Workshop (400 Euro), featuring Petr Skoda and a Moodle 2.0 Introduction featuring David Mudrak.
