Hot on the heals of the release of Moodle 3.0 (which was a pretty big deal in itself), Moodle.org today announced that 3.0.1 will be released on Monday, December 21st with PHP7 support.
Why this matters: the introduction of PHP7 to Moodle has the potential to increase the speed of a Moodle site by 25-70%. While, initially, the speed increase will definitely be on the lower end of that spectrum, having PHP7 on the table for the future is a big deal.
In their announcement, Moodle.org called the release “an early Christmas present.” The release on Monday will depend on all testing going well this week, but Moodle HQ is indicating that is “very-very likely.”
Happy early Christmas! Have you upgraded to Moodle 3.0 yet? Tell us why or why not in the comments below!
