#Moodlewish: Video Everywhere (@Blackboard’s cool new feature)

It’s not that often that I am envious of the Blackboard Learn, but like their Ocho release which upgraded the themes from 2000 to 2020 they’ve recently launched a new tool on Coursesites that is simply awesome.  The new tool is called “Video Everywhere” and it basically leverages Youtube’s API to allow professors and students to integrate video (including webcam capture on the fly) anywhere there’s a text editor.  I’ve seen similar functionality from tools like Kaltura (as a paid solution) but Youtube being free is a major draw.

Here are a few screenshots showcasing the functionality, which works as long as you have a Google account you can authenticate with (who doesn’t?).

I’d contribute to develop that functionality in Moodle (contact me if you’re interested as a developer).

Version2 Web Development has implemented but not released a video-anywhere replacement HTML editor for Moodle 2.2.

If you are interested in a Moodle plugin…
PoodLL plugin can do it too :-)

Similarly, oohoo – Capture allows you to record video, sound or just take a picture with your webcam and integrate it everywhere in Moodle. Note that this plugin does not need any streaming server!
