NEWS FLASH: MoodleTouch is Now Available in the #Apple App Store (just $2.99)

The mTouch (formerly known as MoodleTouch) app for iPhone and iPod Touch has been approved by Apple and is now available in the app store: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mtouch/id366785596?mt=8.

The app is $2.99 for download and can be used by the end user to connect to any pre-Moodle 2.0 installation.  The app looks very much like our original screen shots.

As an additional option, organizations and schools with Moodle sites can contract their own branded mTouch app by contacting PragmaTouch (http://www.pragmasql.com/home/moodletouch/custombranding.aspx).  Custom branding cost as low as $1 per student.

One option for custom branding is that organizations can use their custom branded mTouch app to create their own revenue stream through the app store,

Providing free custom mTouch is not the only option, institutions can also sell their custom branded mTouch on the AppStore. In this case institutions will have to manage their own AppStore account. PragmaTouch will only provide the ipa of the custom branded mTouch.

In any event, it’s a great day for Moodle Mobile.  Don’t forget you can “try it before you buy it” by downloading the Windows demo from http://moodletouch.com.  Tell us what you think: too expensive? too cheap? will your students buy it? will your organization buy it?

I couldn’t recommend it at this stage. It really doesn’t work that well.

Some bits are okay, but others either don’t function as expected or crash out the App.

It’s too beta to recommend however a really good attempt for what must have been a very difficult challenge and I look forward to seeing version 2.0

    James,

We would like to know what is not working as expected or cause our application mTouch to crash.

We would appreciate your detailed feedback.

  3. RonM says:

James as you know I agree this shows a lot of promise but perhaps has tried to achieve too much too soon. However I think what it does display correctly is displayed very well and I have exchanged a few messages with Ali who has been very helpful and already included a fix to an issue I reported and is waiting for a 1.1 update to be approved. I’m sure many of our #molenet projects are watching this and the iphone.moodle.com.au project with interest and hopefully both should help improve use of moodle via iTouch and iPhone devices.

  4. Ali Özgür says:

As Ron said we have worked out the existing problems and will release an update this week. mTouch is now more stable.

    My best regards.

    Hi Ali

I am writing a blog post on my experiences and expect to do some more testing next week when I am back in the office.

    Looking forward to seeing 1.1

    Keep up the good work.

    James

Yeah, I just downloaded this app today, May 24. I saw on April 15, Ali Ozgur mentioned issues with the app crashing. Well, guess what? It crashes for me too. I hit login, it starts to load, but it crashes before anything actually loads. Every single time. Why? Is there a fix for this?
