Joe Deegan has created a page that discusses the drawbacks and benefits of using Moodle at http://blenderwiki.wikispaces.com/Moodle+Pros+and+Cons.  The site has a few entries already that highlight what you should know if you’re discussing or exploring using Moodle as your school, organization or business’s learning management system.  Here’s a link directly to Joe’s original post (asking for submissions) and to the wiki:

So far the benefits out number the drawbacks including:

• It’s open source
• great community
• customizable
• widely available
• sell content online
• it’s familiar
• it has loads of content available

Drawbacks:

• reporting is difficult
• user management
• takes a little tech savvy-ness
• closed (it’s not open for all users)
