5/10 Moodle Developer’s Meeting Recap

The Developer meeting took place last night and you can watch the recording via a link from this page in Elluminate: http://goo.gl/0jhU.  The recording runs about 2 hours and covered a host of issues pertaining specifically to the Moodle 2 Preview and the pending stable release to come this summer 2010.  Around 40 developers and community members were present.

General Notes

  • On the whole Moodle development is focusing on finishing important features and now looking closely to navigation, performance and speed
  • The Moodle Roadmap is being updated and revised to be more useful to non-developer community members in order to provide videos and screen shots of the various new features to be included in the pending release.

Community Hubs

  • Connecting to the default Moodle hub (http://hub.moodle.org) will be as easy as registering your site.
  • You’ll also be able to connect to private Moodle hubs or to create your own by simply installing a plug-in

  • Publishing courses is easy as an editing teacher (but those who have access to publish is decided by the site administrator)

  • Editing teachers will be able to choose their course license (including Creative Commons) and subject area
  • Courses published to the hub are monitored and unavailable until they are “trusted” by the site administrator (this is a very important aspect of the community hub to ensure safety, quality and copyright).
  • Users will also be able to search for enrollable or restore-able courses (those published to the hub)
